Maserati's GranTurismo sports car is set to make a comeback for the 2024 model year, previewed by the Alfieri concept car but wearing a look that incorporates some of the styling cues of the new Grecale SUV. The new GranTurismo will join the lineup alongside the MC20 supercar in 2023 as a 2024 model. Both a gasoline-powered and a fully electric model will be offered, with the electric version wearing the Folgore name, which is Italian for lightning. We also expect a convertible version—called GranCabrio—too, but probably not until the 2025 model year. The gasoline-powered GranTurismo coupe is expected to launch first and will be powered by a detuned version of the MC20’s white-hot Nettuno twin-turbo V-6 engine. All models come with all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission.
What's New for 2024?
The GranTurismo will be all-new when it goes on sale in 2023, marking a return of the nameplate that disappeared from the Maserati lineup after the 2019 model year.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
The GranTurismo is offered in base Modena and performance-oriented Trofeo trims and we’d go with the latter. Not only does the Trofeo come with more horsepower, it also includes with unique forged wheels, an electronically-locking differential, and racier-looking exterior and interior design elements.
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
The GranTurismo gets a detuned version of the MC20 sports car’s twin-turbo V-6 engine. The entry-level Modena trim makes 483 horsepower but upgrading to the Trofeo boosts power to 542 ponies. In our testing, this engine blasted the MC20 to 60 mph in just 3.2 seconds, but the GranTurismo Trofeo is expected to weigh more and will have 79 less horsepower than the MC20, so we expect it to take a few blinks of the eye longer to get to 60 mph. The engine is both characterful and sonorous, and its unique twin-combustion design has roots in Formula 1 racing. The most powerful GranTurismo model will be the all-electric Folgore (reviewed separately) which makes a combined 750 horsepower from its three electric motors. All gasoline-powered GranTurismo models come standard with an eight-speed automatic and all-wheel drive; a manual transmission is not offered.
Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG
More information about the GranTurismo's fuel economy will be revealed closer to the car's on-sale date, and we'll update this story with information as it becomes available. Once we get a production model in for testing, we'll also put it through our 75-mph highway fuel economy test and report our findings. Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
The GranTurismo is a two-door, two-plus-two four-seater with a small back seat that’s as much about luxury as speed. So, we expect to see plenty of amenities and upscale finishes inside the cabin. In the past, the brand has offered unique leather-and-silk upholstery by Italian fashion house Ermenegildo Zegna, which we hope to see again in the new GranTurismo. Passenger and cargo space should be similar to that of rivals such as the Aston Martin Vantage and Mercedes-AMG GT, but we’ll have to wait to see how comfortable the cabin is when we finally get a chance to test drive it for ourselves. When the GranCabrio debuts, expect its trunk to see a decrease in capacity as it makes room for stowing a folding fabric roof.
Infotainment and Connectivity
Maserati's latest infotainment system—a Google-based system that debuted on the Grecale—is offered also standard on the new GranTurismo. A 12.3-inch touchscreen is mounted centrally on the dashboard with a smaller 8.8-inch display mounted just below that to handle climate controls settings. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration are included and work wirelessly. A head-up display provides at-a-glance info such as speed and navigation directions in the driver’s line of sight. Italian audio tuner Sonus Faber created the GranTurismo’s stereo system, which includes up to 19 speakers.
Safety and Driver-Assistance Features
The GranTurismo offers several driver-assistance features as standard, but we still expect more advanced tech to be optional.
